A Good Father and A Good Man

 Canton- As the peaceful evening sunset fell across the mountains on Saturday, December 30, 2017 Alan Blair Washabaugh, age 75, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Washabaugh was born June 16, 1942 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania to the late Ivan Yohanne Washabaugh and the late Olive Jane Black Washabaugh.  He had resided in Pensacola, Florida before making his home in Canton for the past 12 years.  Alan had served in the United States Air Force for 11 years and also the United States Army for 13 years retiring with 24 years of dedicated service.  During the administration of President Lyndon B. Johnson and President Richard M. Nixon,  Mr. Washabaugh was honored to have served as a guard for Air Force One.  Following his military career he became employed with the Department of Defense Police at the Naval Air Station located in Pensacola , Florida retiring in 2005. Mr. Washabaugh had most recently been employed as a policeman with the Town of Canton where he was well known throughout the community.   He was also a talented artist and especially enjoyed creating and sketching delightful cartoons. When remembering Alan let us recall the special words of his family, “He was truly a good father and a good man.”  Alan Washabaugh was indeed a man of courage, a man of great honor and he cherished his family with all of his heart and soul.

Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 28 ½ years, Annette Carter Washabaugh of Canton; daughters, Lucretia Washabaugh of Sylva,  Ashley Washabaugh of Pensacola, Florida  and Christina Washabaugh of Asheville;  sons, Jon Ross and his wife, Erica Ross of Dayton, Ohio,  Dan Ross of Dayton, Ohio , Casey Washabaugh and his wife, Brittany Washabaugh of Waynesville and William Fox, Jr. and his wife, Bonnie Fox of Pensacola, Florida ;  14 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren ; a sister, Zola Moore of Canton; a brother, Craig Washabaugh of Canton and also Alan’s special dog, “Max”.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Pastor Jeff King will be officiating.

Memorials may be made in Mr. Washabaugh’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, 3343 Peachtree Road, NE #M20, Atlanta, Georgia 30326.
