Loving and Kind
Canton – Betty Shipman Powell, age 86, a dear lady with a kind and loving heart, entered into her eternal heavenly home on Tuesday, August 8, 2017.
Mrs. Powell was a lifelong native of Haywood County and was the daughter of the late James Albert Shipman and the late Gertrude Lou Emma Ford Shipman. Betty was employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant and retired from Canton Nursing Home with 20 years of dedicated service. She loved her family deeply and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren that were the light of her life. Mrs. Powell was a Godly woman of strong faith ,who faithfully read her bible and the last verse that she and her family shared together was Psalms 31:5- Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O Lord God of truth.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Paul Wells and her sisters, Helen Green, Louise Landers and Ada Wilson.
Surviving are her daughters, Lou Wells, Ada Green and Carolyn Weaver, all of Waynesville; sons; Michael Wells of Canton and Roger Wells of Waynesville; granddaughters, Kathy and Danielle Wells; grandsons, Andrew Weaver, Stacey Campbell and Michael Wells, Jr.; 5 great-grandchildren and a sister, Reva Parris of Canton and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 12, 2017 in the chapel of Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Canton. Reverend John Parris will be officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Old Thickety Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Andrew Weaver, Stacey Campbell, Michael Wells, Jr., Jim Parris, John Parris, Jr. and James Franklin.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of The Homestead for the special love and care given to Betty and also her family.
