Bethel- Billie Ruth Rogers Scruggs, age 82, of 299 Cathey Cove Road , passed away on Monday, November 19, 2018 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospital.

Billie Ruth was born April 27, 1936 and was the daughter of the late Ernest Rogers and the late Lucy Clark Rogers. She was a lifelong resident of Haywood County and was a graduate of Bethel High School.  Billie Ruth was employed with Dayco International where she retired with 37 years of dedicated service.   She was of the Baptist faith.  Billie Ruth enjoyed being outside working in her yard and garden, but her true passion was clogging. She danced with the Rough Creek Cloggers for 27 years and she also directed 3 children’s dance teams. Billie Ruth was an avid sports fan of the UNC Tarheels Basketball Team and also the Carolina Panthers Football Team.   She was loved by everyone who knew her and her memory will forever be held close in the hearts of her family and many friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Perz and a brother, Ronnie Rogers.

Surviving are her son, Dewayne Scruggs and his wife, Leasa Scruggs of the Bethel Community; grandchildren, Travis Singleton and Keisha Singleton of Canton; a great-grandchild, Finn Singleton; a  brother, W.R. Rogers and his wife, Judy, of Canton; a niece, Sherri Rogers of Asheville; special great-nieces, Hanna Lighthill and Olivia Kirkpatrick; and many friends.

To honor Billie Ruth’s wishes no formal funeral services will be held.  Private entombment will be in The Horizon Mausoleum at Crawford / Ray Memorial Gardens in Clyde.

Dewayne - Your mother and I got to know each other at Central Elementary when she came to my PE classes to help me teach square dancing. She was so much fun and the kids really enjoyed having her. May your mom rest in peace now.
