Canton- A mother’s caring heart and a grandmother’s steadfast love were fashioned by the angels and sent from God above.  These words describe our beloved Bonnie Smith Woodruff, age 83, who peacefully entered into her heavenly home on Sunday, November 18, 2018.

Mrs. Woodruff was born September 17, 1935 in Swain County, NC and was the daughter of the late John Franklin Smith and the late Margaret Shook Smith. Bonnie was born into a loving family with several brothers and sisters and when she met the love of her life and married Ted Lee Woodruff, they began a wonderful life together and shared 56 years of marriage. Later they were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Teresa who has brought them great joy and happiness throughout their lives and also grandchildren that were indeed loved just as if they were their children. Bonnie dedicated her life to her family, always standing at her husband’s side in support of the Town of Canton and the people of her community and also showing immeasurable pride in every activity and endeavor that involved her grandchildren. She and Ted enjoyed traveling and they treasured happy memories of taking their camper on many trips. Bonnie was a talented seamstress and she also held a true passion for shopping.  Bonnie loved her home, she always made visitors feel welcome and she was also a wonderful cook- her poppy seed casserole was a favorite of everyone!  Mrs. Woodruff’s faith was an important part of her life and she has been a member of Canton First Baptist Church for many years. During this special season, we give thanks for the blessings in our lives and Bonnie Smith Woodruff’s life has greatly touched and blessed each of us. A loving wife, a wonderful mother and grandmother and also a dear friend – we give thanks for her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Woodruff who passed away in 2012; an infant daughter, Tara Lee Woodruff and several brothers and sisters.

Surviving are her daughter,Teresa Woodruff of Canton; her grandchildren, Jake Hollifield and his wife, Andrea Hollifield of Candler, Zach Hollifield and his fiancee’, Emily Montgomery of Fairfax, VA and Chelsea Allman and her husband, Zebadiah Allman of Sylva; great-grandchildren, Zayleigh Allman ,Charlotte Allman and  little, Jaxton Hollifield “ a blessing on the way”; several nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

I have lost a dear, loved friend. Ted’s Bonnie and Bill’s Bonnie were first friends through church and then also through the many activities connected with town government. Ted was an alderman for almost the entire time Bill was town manager, and they, too, were close friends. Teresa and family, I share your loss. Bonnie Stamey
