A Blessing To Many

Asheville- Carolyn Mae Alexander, age 72, a wonderful mother and a beloved grandmother, “Kooda”, was carried home by the angels to her glorious heavenly home on Saturday, July 7, 2018.

Ms. Alexander was born April 11, 1946 in Rutherford County to the late Lloyd Alexander and the late Mary Sue Mills Alexander. Carolyn had made her home most of her life in Buncombe County and was a 1969 graduate of Livingston University in Salisbury, NC and later received her Master’s Degree in Education. Her life was dedicated to making a difference in the lives of her many students and encouraging each of them to reach their goals and become the best that they could be. Teaching was her passion and Carolyn had been employed at TC Roberson High School, The Juvenile Evaulation Center in Swannanoa and she was also an instructor in the Early College Program at Asheville Buncombe Technical College. Following her teaching retirement in 2006 she continued to remain close to her students by working as a substitute teacher throughout the area.  Carolyn was deeply loved by all of her students and was affectionately known as “Ms. A.” during her teaching career.  Carolyn held a strong faith, loved her Lord and was indeed an example for each of us to follow. She was a member of Varick Chapel AME Zion Church in Asheville and had also attended Emma Baptist Church and West Asheville Baptist Church. Carolyn was truly an awesome mother and grandmother and a special happy memory that her grandchildren will forever cherish is eating and sharing popcorn with “Kooda”.  Her family, especially her grandchildren, were the love of her life and both of them will carry her precious memory in their hearts forever.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Marley and her brother, William Alexander.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving and devoted daughter, Amber Hamlin and son-in- law, Jeremy Hamlin of Asheville; her beloved grandchildren, Malachi and Majestic and many dear cousins and friends.

A service to celebrate Carolyn’s life will be held at 6:00 pm Thursday, July 12, 2018 at West Asheville Baptist Church. Reverend Dr. Stan Welch and  Reverend Dr. Darren Browning will be officiating. The family will be welcoming and receiving friends at the church one hour prior to the celebration of life service.

Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service is honored to be caring for the Alexander family.
