Canton – Carroll V. Medford, age 83, a devoted husband, a wonderful father and grandfather and also a beloved friend passed away Thursday, January 4, 2018.

Mr. Medford was born April 22, 1934 in Haywood County to the late Guy Medford and the late Mary Ethel Teague Medford. He had honorably served his country in the United States Army. Mr. Medford retired from the United States Postal Service as a dedicated mail carrier with more than 32 years of faithful service. Carroll also enjoyed farming and spending time outdoors among the mountains where he was born and raised. He was a member of Dutch Cove Baptist Church where he had served as a church Deacon and also as a Sunday School teacher.  Mr. Medford was also a member of the Morning Star Community Cemetery Committee.  Anyone blessed to know Carroll will always remember his happy and jovial personality. He delighted in sharing a good joke with friends and family and everyone always looked forward to a conversation with Carroll to brighten their day. The great love that Carroll held in his heart for his family was truly immeasurable and his grandchildren were his pride and joy.

Surviving are his loving wife of 61 years, Ernestine Patrick Medford of Canton; daughters, Linda Wilde and her husband, Steve Wilde of Candler, Martha Ledford and her husband, David Ledford of Mount Sterling, Kentucky; sons, Donald Medford of Canton and Mike Medford and his wife, Judy Medford of Canton; grandchildren, Chelsea Woods and her husband, Nick Woods, Andrew and Meredith Ledford and Eli and Chloe Medford.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Dutch Cove Baptist Church. Pastor Jason Miller and Pastor Roy Houston will be officiating. The family will be welcoming and receiving friends at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be in Morning Star Community Cemetery.   

Memorials may be made in Mr. Medford’s memory to the Morning Star Community Cemetery Maintenance Fund, PO Box 1746, Canton, NC 28716.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Carroll. I have much love for all of the Medford family. I also remember some wonderful times we had years ago. God bless all of you, but you know what Carroll and Wayne are not sick any more and we will see them soon.

Carroll was a wonderful and cherish cousin of mine and I always enjoyed times we shared during our family gatherings. I know he leaves a legacy that all would welcome. It is known that God will welcome him home.
