Canton-  Charles “ Chuck” Roger Wuest, a man who was greatly loved and respected by everyone blessed to know him, passed away Thursday, June 28, 2018.

Mr. Wuest was born July 9, 1934 in Champaign, Illinois to the late Peter Henry Wuest and the late Velma Simmons Wuest.  He later had made his home in Greenville, South Carolina where he graduated from Taylors High School in 1952. Upon his graduation he entered into the United States Air Force where he honorably served his country from 1952 until 1956 as an aviation electrician. After his military career he attended Bob Jones University during the years of 1957 thru 1959 and following his college education he became employed with IBM Corporation as a computer engineer until his retirement in 1988. Chuck relocated to Haywood County in 2000 to make his home and where he worked as a part-time real estate agent. Mr. Wuest held a great love for the mountains and the true mountain heritage and he chose to make his home most recently in the Beaverdam Community of Haywood County where he had made many friendships. What a wonderful and full life of 83 years that Charles Wuest was given.  Being the true gentleman that he was, he always made those around him feel special and he never met a stranger!  Chuck was indeed a man who seemed to know something about everything and with his friendly outgoing personality he could easily carry on a conversation with anyone concerning any topic of interest that was being discussed.  He often wrote poetry and short stories and was an accomplished published author. He was also an avid rock collector and “rockhound” and Chuck had graciously donated his collection to the Smithsonian Institute.  He enjoyed listening to bluegrass music and had traveled extensively throughout his life. Mr. Wuest held a private pilot license and had formerly owned and operated an air charter service located at the Greenville, South Carolina downtown airport.  He will be deeply missed as a father, a grandfather, a great-grandfather, a brother and one of those giants in life that was a pleasure to know and to befriend. We celebrate and give thanks for the life of Charles “Chuck” Wuest, as his absence brings a silent grief in our heart, his life will always remains a precious memory.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sawrie Wuest who passed away in 2015.

So sorry to hear of Chuck's passing. I was privileged to work with him for many years at IBM. Yes, he was a very special person and yes, I don't believe he ever met a stranger. The family is in my prayers.
