A Kind and Giving Man

Photo of Charles Henry White - 1957-2018

Waynesville – Charles Henry White, age 60, a man who had dedicated his life to caring and helping others,  passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2018.

Mr. White was born August 13, 1957 in Buncombe County. He had made his home in Haywood County most of his life and had been employed as a certified nursing assistant. Charles has touched many lives with his kindness and his caring heart.  He was blessed with a delightful outgoing personality and he never ever met a stranger. He held a passion for rescue work with animals and he cared about all living creatures- large or small.   Charles often telephoned friends just to share a kind word and let each of them know that they were in his thoughts. He was also a talented jewelry artisan and shared many of his beautiful items with friends and family.  He enjoyed spending time outdoors and he grew a garden even up until his passing. Charles brought happiness to everyone he met and in the words of his family, “He was really something.”  To honor his memory we should each reach out and try to bring a little joy into someone’s life today.  Charles would like that.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pless White and Jessie Heatherly White who loved him and raised him as their own and his natural parents, Jr. Davis and Annie R. Davis; his sisters, Gail Austin and Jean Dunn and a brother-law, Dennis Dunn.

Surviving are his sisters, Jo Phillips ( Gary)  and Susie Slone both of Travelers Rest, SC and Gail Childress ( Alan) of Waynesville;  a brother, Jimmy Davis of Waynesville;  a brother-in- law, Charlie Austin of Balsam  and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service for Charles will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 4, 2018 in the chapel of Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Canton.  The family will be receiving and welcoming friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Mr White was so dear to me. We met years ago while working with animal rescues. He was one of the kindest people I have ever met.

Charles was a wonderful man and a dear friend. I only recently got to know him and was immediately taken by his charm. Charles loved everyone and had a generous and caring heart. I will miss him tremendously. His love for helping animals will linger on. I know all the animals in Heaven are rejoicing with him now. Till we meet again my friend. God bless you.

I only got to meet Charles once barely a week before he passed to take his dog Harley to see him, and to let Charles know that Harley would be well taken care of. I'm glad he got to smile with his old friend one more time.
