Canton-  On Thursday, June 13, 2019, a beloved mother and grandmother, Charlotte Hilda Smathers Hardin, entered into her eternal  Heavenly home.

Mrs. Hardin was born on March 13, 1926 and was blessed with 93 years of a wonderful life. She was the daughter of the late Norman Smathers and the late Margie Smathers and was a lifelong resident of Haywood County. Mrs. Hardin was a devoted homemaker and her heart overflowed with joy and love for children and she also held a special concern and fondness for all animals. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Canton.  Mrs. Hardin always looked forward to family gatherings and special times that she and her family were able to be together and these memories will be cherished forever by each of them.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Hardin who passed away in 1997 and her sisters, Helen DeWeese and Madge Grogan.

Surviving are her children, Carolyn Hardin of Asheville, Steve Hardin and his wife, Lee Anna Dotson Hardin of Clyde and Chris Hardin and his wife, Judy Hardin of Canton; grandchildren, Nicole, Michael, Clint and Ben, and eleven great-grandchildren.

To honor Mrs.Hardin’s request no formal funeral services will be held.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of Canton Christian Convalescent Center and  Maggie Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their care and deep concern given to Mrs. Hardin.
