Curmitt Lee Cagle, a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2018, at the age of 83.

Curmitt was a son of the late Joseph Cagle and Lura Lunsford Cagle. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Lafayette, Dewitt, Abe, Gentry “Shorty”, Rick, and Joan.

After attending Canton High School, Mr. Cagle honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Upon his return, he was employed with Champion International until his retirement. Curmitt enjoyed relaxing on his front porch at his home nestled in the mountains and listen to music, and when he had to come inside he would watch Western movies. He loved to spend time with his family. Curmitt was a practical man who enjoyed simplicity, and being down to earth, and imparted his great sense of humor with family and friends. He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his children, Karen Grooman and her husband, Tim, of Asheville, and Kevin Cagle and his wife, Tammy of Canton; grandchildren, Jennifer Webster and her husband, David, Caitlin Grooman, Tyler Grooman and his wife, Olga, Mitchell Cagle, and Ashley Cagle ( Daniel Schmidt) ; great-grandchildren, Bella Kent, Carter Kent, and Izaac Cagle; sister, Belva Cothran of Louisiana; and several nieces and nephews.

I feel so blessed that Curmitt was one of my neighborhood “Dads”!! He was so kind to me and had a way of always making me laugh & feel special. Curmitt was such a kind, even tempered gentleman who always seemed to be smiling! I can’t imagine the pain you all must be feeling. My thoughts and prayers are with you!! May He Rest In Peace❤️
