Canton- David Alan Cairnes, a dear son, loving husband and father, age 62, passed away Tuesday, November 28. 2017.

Mr. Cairnes was born August 29, 1955 in Haywood County and was the son of Mary Elliott Cairnes of Canton and the late Bill Cairnes. He was a graduate of Western Carolina University and received his Masters Degree from Virginia Tech. David had been employed with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee and also was an English teacher in the schools of Dalian and Fuzhou, China. He had also been employed as a field technician with a local engineering firm located in Waynesville.  

In his spare time he could often be found riding motorcycles, reading and also watching movies. David was a friend to many and his memory will forever be cherished by his loving family and friends.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Jiangli Lu Cairnes of Canton; his daughters, Ruth Cairnes of Canton and Sophia Juliet Cairnes of the home; sons, Stephen Cairnes and his wife, Christi Cairnes of Wilmington and Ian William Cairnes of the home and also many dear friends.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Monday, December 4, 2017 at Long’s Chapel United Methodist Church at Lake Junaluska. Pastor Tim McConnell and Pastor Chris Westmoreland will be officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
