David Anthony Richards, a resident of Almond, NC, passed away July 19, 2018 at Four Seasons Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, NC at the age of 77.

A native of Erie, PA, David was a son of the late Donald Richards and Betty Hauer Carrick. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Donna.

Mr. Richards served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and retired as a manager from NCR where he worked for 28 years. Those who knew David also knew his charmingly dry sense of humor and his sardonic banter. David enjoyed playing and watching baseball and played in the minor leagues. He also had a passion for riding motorcycles, drinking Bud Light, boating, and the Cleveland Indians. David collected very close friends to whom he was extremely loyal. He loved life, his family, his friends, and his dogs. David was adored by his family and he will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Carol Richards; his step-daughter, Christi Schwirian of Almond, NC; his brother, John Carrick and his wife, Joann, of Erie, PA; his nephews and his niece, J.P., Sean, and Megan; and many, many dear friends in Erie and many loving friends in the Tampa Bay area.

In accordance with David’s wishes, there will be a Special Acknowledgement to his life in Erie, PA and in Tampa, FL during the winter.

Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service is honored to be caring for the Richards family and words of comfort may be shared at www.CrawfordRay.com

Condolences from family and friends

There are no words to describe the void Big Dave will leave in our lives and the world as we know it. We are all heart broken but know that the Mountain Man is already sitting back, relaxing, in no pain at all, and finally, finally having a cold Bud Light AND enjoying it immensely. Heaven has no sense of time and Big Dave awaits us all. We will be there to party once again and forever, my friend....Before you know it. Dave was the most courageous human being I/we know and I will always love him like a brother. Jan, Lindsay and Lance loved Dave like family. We are all truly saddened and we all will miss Dave dearly. We all move on through this journey of life, but know that Dave will always be present in our hearts... and we look forward to seeing him again. Love to all.
