Asheville- Edna Messer Rowland, age 89, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2017.

Mrs. Rowland was a native of Haywood County and was the daughter of the late Bill Messer and Nora Haney Messer. She had made her home in Asheville and retired from the Grove Park Inn in Asheville with over 40 years of dedicated service. She was a member of the Salvation Army Church in Asheville. In the words of her family she will forever be remembered as,“ The best mother on earth.”

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gay Rowland; her son, Danny Rowland and also her brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her daughter, Gail R. Bailey of Wilmington,NC a son Donald Rowland of Woodstock,GA and also grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a sister Mary Jane Collins.

The family will be receiving friends from 5-7PM Thursday evening at Crawford / Ray Funeral Home in Canton.  The service will be Friday, the 5th at Salvation Army Church at 750 Haywood Road, West Asheville with visitation 12-1.  Service at 1 PM.  Burial will be at Crawford / Ray Memorial Gardens in Clyde.  At other times, the family will be at 72 Sandhill Rd in Asheville.

Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service is honored to be caring for the Rowland family.

Edna was the last of my aunt's. I remember her mostly from my childhood at Grandpa's farm. Loved to see them ( Uncle Gay , Edna and kids ). Donald I'm sure you remember playing in the apple orchard with me, Maurice, Gary and cousin Tommy. I am sure we will all be together again. Until then God Bless.
