Canton- During the quiet morning hours of Saturday, November 18, 2017, Frances “Fran” Carole Powell Weaver, age 66, was carried home by God’s angels. She was taken to her Heavenly home where her loving mother, Edith Brown Powell, who left this earthly world only two days prior, was waiting with open arms to welcome her  beautiful daughter, Fran into her heavenly home -a place of peace, contentment, everlasting joy and love. We rejoice that they are united in Heaven together.

Fran was born March 26, 1951 in Bat Cave, North Carolina to the late E.O. Powell and the late Edith Brown Powell.  She was the 3rd daughter born into the Powell family and was blessed with three sisters who loved her dearly. Fran grew up in Canton, where she made friendships that have remained a part of her life forever. She was a 1969 graduating class member of Pisgah Senior High School, where she was a member of the Home Coming Court, Beta Club, Pisgah Chorus and was also involved in many extra-curricular activities throughout her high school years.  Following graduation she continued her education at Saint Genevieve of The Pines Business College in Asheville.  She later made her home in Greenville, South Carolina before calling Dalton, Georgia her home for the past few years. Fran was truly an entrepreneur in the medical field. She was the administrator of several medical clinics and had opened her own clinic in several locations. She enjoyed traveling, decorating and interior design which was indeed a talent that she was blessed with.  A happy and wonderful memory that all of the family shared with Fran was her excitement of the holidays! Fran was a woman of faith. She had attended Calvary Baptist Church in Canton and also attended several churches in the Dalton, Georgia area. Our hearts are broken by the sudden loss of Frances “Fran” Carole Powell. She was loved by so many. She will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved her more than life itself, her three beautiful sisters, her son and a precious grandson that Fran will always watch over from heaven.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a nephew, Christopher Eric Zachary and an uncle, Elder Brown.

Surviving are her son, Chad Young of Chattanooga, Tennessee; her precious grandson, Zachary Young; her sisters, Leila “Bunny” P. Sprouse and her husband, Dwight “Butch” Sprouse of Penrose, Susan P.  Finger and her husband, J. Lee Finger of Asheville and Jane P. Salvaggio and her husband, Gary Salvaggio of Flat Rock; nieces and nephews, Brian Dwight Sprouse and his wife, Lisa G. Sprouse of Marion, Mark Phillip Sprouse and his wife, Julie W. Sprouse of Brevard, Patrick Chad Young of Chattanooga, TN; great-nieces and great-nephews; Emory Copeland Sprouse, Sean Phillip Sprouse, Ryan Elizabeth Sprouse and Zachary Young.

A joint celebration of life and funeral service for Fran Powell Weaver and her mother, Mrs. Edith Brown Powell will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 24, 2017 at Calvary Baptist Church in Canton.  Pastor Paul Murdock and Pastor Darrell Webb will be officiating.  The family will be receiving friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Crawford / Ray Memorial Gardens in Clyde.

Memorial donations may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, Ellie Brown Scholarship Fund, 23 Phillips Street, Canton, NC 28716 or to The Elizabeth House, Four Seasons Administrative office, 571 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
