Freddie Allen Gentry
A Special Man
Canton- Freddie Allen Gentry, age 68, a man who was loved by everyone who knew him, entered into his heavenly home on Sunday, April 29, 2018.
Mr. Gentry was born May 11, 1949 to the late Fred Gentry and the late Helen Nelson Gentry. He was a lifelong resident of Haywood County and had honorably served his country in the United States Army. He had been faithfully employed with the Town of Canton, working with the Street Department until his retirement. Freddie enjoyed camping at Mountain Shadows Campground, trips to Lake Chatuge, traveling throughout the western United States and also his trips to the beach were all happy memories for the Gentry family. He was well known for raising horses and was honored with numerous awards and blue ribbons for his beautiful outstanding horses in various horse shows and events. Everyone was well aware of Freddie’s great pride for his tractor, which he amazingly drove without any brakes! Freddie Gentry will always be remembered as a man who deeply loved his family. He was truly a loving husband, father, and grandfather and was a joy and blessing to everyone who was a part of Freddie’s life.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 48 years, Linda Wines Gentry of Canton; daughters, Pamala Mann and her fiance', Mark Miller of Canton, Paula Suttles and her husband, Steve Suttles of Canton; a son, Scott Gentry and his wife, Anita Gentry of Canton; grandchildren, Daniel (Christine), Sawyer, Zachary (Allison), Caitlin, and Cheyenne; great-grandchildren, Zoey, Grayson, Jack, Lacey, and Leland; a sister, Freida Rogers and her husband, Ernest Rogers, Jr of Canton.; a special cousin and dear friend, Lib Bryson of Canton; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate Mr. Gentry’s life will be held at 7:00 PM Saturday evening, May 5, 2018 in the chapel of Crawford / Ray Funeral Home. Mr. Howard Wines will be officiating. The family will be welcoming and receiving friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm prior to the service.
