Geneva Devlin Garrett
A Beloved Precious Lady
Leicester- Throughout our lives we are blessed with people that we love, people that make us feel happy and bring joy into our hearts and also people with a caring way that make others feel special. Geneva Devlin Garrett, age 77, of Boyd Cove Road in Leicester was truly this type of person. On Thursday evening, September 28, 2017, Geneva passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family, as the angels carried her to Heaven for her eternal homegoing.
Mrs. Garrett was born June 3, 1940 in Haywood County to the late Samuel Devlin and the late Vonnie Mason Devlin. She was born into a large and close family and her years growing up in Canton brought many happy memories that she held in her heart for a lifetime. After meeting and marrying the love of her life, William “Bill” Garrett, they made their home in the Big Sandy Mush Community of Leicester and together shared 44 years of a wonderful life. Geneva and Bill were well known throughout Western North Carolina as co-owners of Garrett Brothers Dairy Farm which they operated for many years. A faithful wife, a loving mother and a devoted homemaker, Geneva seemed to find the time to have also worked at several other jobs during her lifetime. She was a talented seamstress, a hostess at Ryan’s Steak House, a cashier at Kmart and indeed her most fulfilling and cherished position of being a certified teaching assistant at several early childhood development centers. Children were her delight and she always strived to “lift-up” and help all of the little ones that came into her life. Mrs. Garrett spent endless hours volunteering with community and school events, the 4-H Club and also at the churches where she had belonged, Big Sandy Mush United Methodist Church and later at Newfound Baptist Church in Leicester. She loved serving the Lord. When remembering Geneva, we shall never forget her high-spirited, fun-loving and spunky personality and of course always her love of life. In the word’s of her grandchildren, she will always be our, “Fun Mamaw,” There are angels that God puts on this earth who care for us, guide us and walk through life beside us- Geneva Devlin Garrett, was our angel, our mother, our mamaw and our friend.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Garrett was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Hobert Garrett, who passed away in 2003; her son, Michael Garrett; her sisters, Betty Reynolds, Frances Mason and Jeanette Owenby; and brothers, Charles, Hillard, McArthur, Bill and Ernest Devlin.

Garrett and his wife, Darlene Garrett of Leicester;a daughter, DeAnna Garrett McCarson and her husband, Chris McCarson of Leicester; grandchildren, Stacey and Tyler Garrett; sisters, Emily Cody and Hilda Henderson; several nieces and nephews and also her beloved miniature dachshund, “Oscar”.
