Leicester- Gerald Franklin Wines, age 79, a loving husband, the best daddy, a wonderful papaw and a true friend, passed away on Monday, October 8, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Wines was born January 3, 1939 to the late Clayton Wines and the late Vassa Dixon Wines. He was a native of Haywood County and had made his home in Leicester for the past 32 years.  Gerald had been employed with Economy Tire in Candler. He enjoyed spending time among the mountains that he loved and he was a well-known coon hunter throughout the area. His heart was filled with a deep and devoted love for his wife and his family. Gerald was the best Papaw ever and a true friend to many.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, three sisters and two brothers.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 55 years, Mary “Cooter” Surrett Wines; a daughter, Lisa Roland and her fiancé, Greg Roland of Candler; a son, Jerry Wines and his wife, Sandra Wines of Canton; grandchildren, Amanda Hutchinson and Rockie of Leicester, Erica Swann and Jason of Leicester and Nicole Wines and her fiancé, Chris of Sylva ; one great- grandson and four great-granddaughters; sisters, Linda Gentry of Canton and Shirley Carver and her husband, Van Carver of Canton; brothers, Howard Wines and  his wife, Thelma Wines of Leicester and Roger Dale Wines and his wife, Brenda Wines of Leicester and also many dear friends.

A service of remembrance to celebrate the life of Mr. Wines will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Beulah Baptist Church located on North Turkey Creek Road in Leicester. Conley Gillespie, Howard Wines and Reverend Ricky Wolfe will be officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

Gerald was a great man. He loved strong and never met a stranger. We were honored to be called his friends. Our prayers and love go out to each member of his family and all of his friends. He will be greatly missed by many.

I absolutely loved Gerald, he was one of the sweetest people i have ever met! I will never forget us laughing at me making his coon dogs howl as i tried to sing! Im praying for all the family, heaven sure did gain a sweet angel!!!
