A Dedicated Woman
Gloria Thompson Manzek, 66, of Bryson City, passed away May 1, 2018 at Harris Regional Hospital in Sylva.
Born April 26, 1952 in Trenton, New Jersey, she was a daughter of the late Clifford Thompson and Mildred Cook Thompson.
Gloria’s parents moved from Trenton, New Jersey to Morrisville, Pennsylvania where Gloria spent most of her life. After graduating from Morrisville High School, she worked for Jones New York Clothing Apparel, and at Family Dollar in Morrisville, PA. She also designed and created castings and injection moldings. Her dedication to her work was prevalent throughout her life. She was known for being a workaholic, being proactive, and getting straight to the point. She enjoyed spending time along the boardwalk of Seaside Heights, New Jersey, and eating her favorite pizza at Original’s Italian Pizzeria in Morrisville, Pennsylvania. Her grandchildren were the joy of her life and she would take any opportunity she could to be with them. When she moved to Bryson City, she would help her son, Scott, at his bakery, Bryson City Bakery and Pastry Shop until the shop moved to Canton as Our Daily Bread Bakery.
Survivors include her son, Scott Thompson of Canton; grandchildren, Katie Thompson McMillian and her husband, Chris, and Dana Thompson all of Bryson City; a great-grandson and the light of her eyes, Hunter McMillian; special grandchildren, Nevaeh and Tyler McMillian, and her "Special Little Girl," Maddie Waldroup; a sister, Sheree Nemchik and her husband, Greg; brothers, Bruce Thompson and his wife, Elena, of San Taw Valley, AZ, and Clifford Thompson and his wife, Susan, of Hartley, DE; nieces and nephews, Pam, Robyn, Amy, Keith, Kevin, Katie, Michelle, Barbara, and Michael; and many more family and in-laws.
Memorial services will be held privately by the family.
