Helen M. Hill
So Dearly Loved
Leicester – One kind word can change someone’s day and Helen McCracken Hill was a lady whose loving heart and many kind words touched the lives of everyone blessed to know her throughout the 80 years of her life. During the early morning hours of Tuesday, October 3, 2017 she peacefully passed away and entered into her heavenly home.
Mrs. Hill was born December 14, 1936 to the late Paul Benton McCracken and the late Annice Boyd McCracken. She had made her home in Buncombe County all of her life and even at an early age Helen was well known throughout the Leicester community for her friendly and sweet personality. Mrs. Hill had been employed as a sales associate with Penny’s Department Store in Asheville, retiring with many years of dedicated service. She had also worked hand-in-hand with her husband Don operating a dairy farm in Leicester. She was a wonderful homemaker, an outstanding cook and no one could make a banana pudding like Helen! She possessed the gift of knowing how to make everyone feel special and her beautiful smile and her warm and loving hugs always made one feel welcome to the Hill home. Helen loved people and because of her concern and caring ways while she was a resident of Emerald Ridge Rehabilitation and Care Center she was proclaimed and awarded a name badge honorarily appointing her the assistant director of the facility. She deeply loved and cherished all of her family. Mrs. Hill’s faith was an important part of her life and she was a member of Newfound Baptist Church. We have all been blessed by the life of Helen McCracken Hill- a devoted wife, a loving and proud mother, a special sister, and a faithful friend- we thank God for her life.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Don Hill who passed away in 2008; her brothers, Jess, Tom and David McCracken and a nephew, Robert McCracken.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law that were pride and joy, Donna Sharpe and her husband, Michael Sharpe of Leicester; her sister-in-law, Kay McCracken of Taylors, South Carolina , who was just like a sister to Helen; a special niece, Karen Candler and her husband, Randy Candler and their daughter, Bella all of Taylors, South Carolina ; also several other nieces and nephews; her beloved dogs, “Bosley” and “ Blade” that brought her much happiness and a multitude of friends that cared for Helen dearly.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening, October 5, 2017 in the chapel of Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Pastor Charles Phillips will be officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral service. A private interment will be held in Newfound Baptist Church Cemetery.
