Canton/ Asheville- Ida Aman Wood, age 93, a beloved mother and grandmother, passed away Friday, March 2, 2018.
Mrs. Wood was born November 23, 1924 in Onslow County, North Carolina and had resided in Jacksonville, NC before moving to Haywood County to make her home in 1992. She had been employed as a hairdresser for more than 40 years. Ida enjoyed playing bridge with her friends and she was most competitive and always enjoyed winning! The happy times of afternoon bridge with all of her friends were indeed cherished memories. Mrs. Wood was a charter member of Brookwood Baptist Church in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Ida enjoyed watching her favorite baseball team, The Atlanta Braves and the University of North Carolina Basketball Team on television and she also was a great fan of PBR Bull Riding Circuit. Her heart was filled with immeasurable love for her family and her grandchildren were her pride and joy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John W. Aman and the late Naomi Ruth Lanier Aman; her husband, Paul Wood; her son-in-law, Ron Rogers and sisters, Eleanor Ray Jones and Margie Aman.
Surviving are her daughters, Linda Rogers of Canton and Anita “Teeny” Wood of Asheville; grandchildren, Cameron Henderson of Fletcher and Paige Bridges and her husband, Adam Bridges of Waynesville; a great-grandson, Carson Bridges and a precious baby boy on the way.
A private memorial service for Mrs. Wood will be held at a later date.
