Canton – U.S. Navy Petty Officer First Class (Ret.) James Frank “Bud” Sutton, 79, a native of Haywood County, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2018, at Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville.

Bud retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service from 1954 to 1974, which included a tour in Vietnam. Following his Navy career, he worked at a shipyard in Norfolk, VA for 10 years, and finally retiring from RCF Construction as a concrete finisher. Bud loved bluegrass music and spending time at Lake Chatuge. He was also a champion horseshoe player. Bud was known for his humor and his quick wit. His generous nature and enormous heart had him offering help and support to his friends, neighbors, and the local community, as well as giving to charities all over. He also loved animals of all kinds.

Bud was preceded in death by his mother, Janie Russell Sutton; father, Joe Sutton; sister, Joann Robinson; and a nephew, Dennis Gillett.

Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Jeanne Burchfield Sutton; daughters, Carolyn Sutton of Cruso, and Sarah Mills and her husband, Mike, of Canton; son, Bill Revels and his wife, Misty; grandchildren, Victoria and Brandi Eisman; great-grandchildren, Jason, Zachary, Desiree, Brittany, and Nathan; a great-great-grandson, Beau; brother-in-law, David Burchfield; sister-in-law, Murlan Burchfield; a special nephew, Darrell Gillett and his wife, Kim; and step-nephew, Jason and his partner, Alicia. He is also survived by his 3 chihuahuas, Sassy, Sandy, and Pixie.

A visitation will be held Saturday, April 14 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Crawford / Ray Funeral Home Chapel in Canton. A graveside memorial service will be held Sunday, April 15 at 4:00 PM at New Cruso Cemetery.

Dear Jeanne and family, I am so sorry to hear of Buds passing. I will sure miss going by your house and you all sitting on the porch. He has a new porch now, and no more sickness and pain.
