Honored His Country, Loved His Family
Canton – James “Jimmy” Claude Davis, III, 71, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at his home.
A lifelong resident of Haywood County, Jimmy was born June 12, 1947 to the late James C. Davis, Jr., and Lottie Forrest Davis. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a stepson, Ronnie Ledford; his sister, Patsy Fisher; and his brother, John Davis.
At the age of 20, Jimmy proudly served in the US Army in Vietnam and was a distinguished sharpshooter. Jimmy loved collecting guns knives, stamps, and coins, and he also enjoyed listening to music. He valued his privacy, and always maintained a high moral standard and expected that from others. He was a talented pipefitter and could build and fix anything. His family will always remember his love through his kind actions, and will always treasure the memory of hearing him say “I love you.”
Surviving are his loving wife of 40 years, Ruby Mathis Davis; stepson, Troy Ledford and his wife Barbara of Canton; step-daughter-in-law, Kathy Ledford; grandchildren, Kevin, Candice, Autumn, and Tammy; great-grandchildren, Melodie, Allie, Harper, Briar, Finley, Billie, Leigha, Cody, and Kayla; great-great-grandchildren, Mason and Rayene; and a nephew, Doug Fisher.
A graveside service will be held Friday, March 1, 2019 at 11:30 pm at Crawford / Ray Memorial Gardens in Clyde. Rev. Richard Club will be officiating.
