James "Jim" Swafford
A Man Deeply Missed
Canton- On Friday May 25, 2018, James “Jim” Porter Swafford, age 82, a loving father and grandfather, entered into his eternal heavenly home.
Mr. Swafford was born March 28, 1936 to the late Claude Edgar Swafford and the late Mary Jane Kephart Swafford. He was a lifelong native of Haywood County and retired from Champion International with many years of dedicated service. Mr. Swafford was a faithful member of Canton First United Methodist Church, where he had served as a member of the Board of Trustees and he also gave of his time and talent as a master craftsman to help repair and remodel the church, always making certain that things were kept in pristine condition. He was a member of Masonic Pigeon River Lodge #386 AF and AM where he made many friendships throughout the years. He loved to hunt and also to spend time in his garden. Jim deeply loved his family and it gives us peace to know that he will be forever with his Lord in eternity.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Devlin Swafford who passed away in 1997 and also his son, Eddie Swafford.
Surviving are his daughters, Janice Swafford Plemmons and her husband, Michael Plemmons of Canton and Mary Beth Swafford and her husband, Gary Buckner of Woodfin; grandchildren, Heather Vella of Canton, James Michael Plemmons, II and his wife, Rebecca Plemmons of Canton, Stephen Christopher Plemmons and his wife, Kendra Plemmons of Canton, Wesley Buckner and his wife, Amanda Buckner of Fairview and Tim Buckner and his wife, Stephanie Buckner of Fairview; great-grandchildren, Michael, Grace,Justus,Jada, Caleb, Emma, Krew, Ketch, Theo, Marley and Sonny and also a precious baby blessing soon to be born; Jim’s special pug dog, “Booger ”, Jr. and many friends.
The funeral service will be at 3:00 pm Sunday, May 27, 2018 in the chapel of Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Reverend Clay Morgan and Reverend Jodi Hopkins will be officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be in Crawford / Ray Memorial Gardens in Clyde.
