James "Tom" E. Williams
A Family Man
James “Tom” E. Williams, age 75, of Big Sandy Mush Community, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 28, 2018, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, Tom was born April 21, 1943, to the late Namon Williams and the late Phoebe Surrett Williams. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Bob Williams, and Wade Williams; a half-brother, Billy Williams; a step-brother, Cecil Surrett; and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Williams.
Tom was a skilled crane operator for 30 years working with Blue Ridge Structure and also with Taylor Murphy building bridges until his retirement when he then focused on farming and gardening on his homestead. He enjoyed trout fishing in Spring Creek and hunting for ginseng on his 4-wheeler. Tom was known as a wonderful man who loved everybody, would help anybody, and would always put his family first. He was a proud member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church. He will be deeply missed.
Surviving are his loving wife of 55 cherished years, Margaret “Geraldine” Surrett Williams; children, Danny Williams and his wife, Tracy, of Pelzer, SC, Angie Mace and her husband, Bobby, of Big Sandy Mush, Renée Reemes and her husband, Ralph, of North Turkey Creek, and Steven Williams of Big Sandy Mush; a brother, Waynie Williams and his wife, Betty Jean, of Spring Creek; 11 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, September 30 at 3:00 pm at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church in Sandy Mush Community of Leicester with Pastor Bill Brown, Pastor Ralph Reemes, and Pastor Dwayne Brown officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the church one hour prior to the funeral.
