Jason Cody Grooms, a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, July 21, 2018, at the age of 26.

Jason was a son of the late Kenneth Garfield Grooms and the late Martha Lou Lanning Grooms. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Kenny Dale Grooms; an aunt, and an uncle.

Jason, lovingly known to his family as “Jay Bird,” loved riding and working on motorcycles with his twin brother, James. He worked previously for Harrah’s Cherokee Casino and currently was working for Partner Construction Company. Jason and his twin brother, James, were always together throughout everything. He was a caring man with a gentle heart who would go out of his way to help anyone. Jason deeply cared for his partner, Mariah, and his daughter, Kaytlenn.

Survivors include the love of his life, Mariah Rash; his daughter, Kaytlenn Grooms of the home; his twin brother, James Cory Grooms; uncles, Keith Grooms of Waynesville, Carroll Grooms of Waynesville; aunt, Margaret Moody and her husband, Robert, of Maggie Valley, Thelma Grooms and her husband Carter Clark, of Maggie Valley; nephew, Cory Dale Grooms of Waynesville; and several other nieces and nephews who loved him very much.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to friends and co-workers for their love and support.

Jason was such a great person. Always had a smile when I would see him (and usually his brother too) in the hallways at the casino. He will be greatly missed.
