Canton – During this blessed Christmas season a lady that was kind, caring and always thoughtful of others, Joan Ford Browning, aged 87, passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2018.

Mrs. Browning was born February 3, 1931 in Haywood County to the late Kenneth Ford and the late Myrtle Clark Ford.

Joan received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and was employed as a registered nurse for many dedicated years until her retirement.  She married the love of her life and best friend, James Robert “Bob” Browning and they shared 70 years of a wonderful life together.  They were blessed with a beautiful daughter Robbie, who has always been the pride and joy of their lives.  Joan was the co-owner of Browning Construction, Browning Tire, Browning Storage and also Browning Trucking and Equipment Sales.   The Browning family was also involved in the automobile racing industry having owned and sponsored several racing cars.  It was through the racing industry that Joan met multitudes of lifelong friends.  She often enjoyed spending time at Lake Chatuge with her family and traveling in the winter season to Florida with her husband Bob.  Joan also loved her home and enjoyed spending quiet evenings sitting on her porch with her beloved dogs Molly and Ollie.

She will forever be remembered as a lady who dedicated her life to her family and who will always go out of her way to help others.  We give thanks for the life of Joan Ford Browning.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Browning who passed away in 2015 and her sister Doris Ford Hensley.

Surviving Joan are her beloved daughter, Robbie Browning of Canton, and her niece, Shanna Hawkins and her husband, David of Asheville.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, December 28, 2018 in the chapel of Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1 North Main Street, Canton, NC.  Pastor Aryn Williams-Ruebel will be officiating.  Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center, PO Box 5363, Asheville, NC 28813.  Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service is honored to be caring for the Browning family.
