Canton –   Kenneth Earl Shelton, age 84, was called home by his Lord and Savior on Wednesday,December 20, 2017.

Mr. Shelton was a lifelong native of Haywood County and was the son of the late Spurgeon Shelton and the late Minnie Hendrix Shelton. He had honorably served his country as a United States Navy Veteran, having served in Korea on the USS Chemung.  Kenneth had retired from Shelton Transport as a truck driver having delivered petroleum products to various oil companies throughout the area. Mr. Shelton was a current member of Bethel Baptist Church. His strong faith had always been an important part of his life had he had been a music director, Sunday School teacher and had also served as an ordained Deacon in several churches throughout his life.  Kenneth loved being outdoors and spending time in the mountains hunting, fishing and camping.  He also enjoyed coon hunting and was a founding member of the Haywood County Coon Hunters Association.  Mr. Shelton was blessed with a beautiful voice and everyone loved to hear him sing beautiful hymns about Jesus and raise his voice in praise.  Kenneth loved his family deeply and during this blessed Holy Season the hearts of his family are at peace knowing that Kenneth will spend Christmas in Heaven.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Shelton and sisters, Jessie Mae Brown, Irene Howell and Christine Brown.

Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 61 years, Margaret Ferguson Shelton of Canton;  a daughter, Elaine Rider and her husband, Jerry Rider of Waynesville; sons, DeWayne Shelton and his wife, Sharon Shelton of Clyde, Terry Shelton and his wife, Cami Shelton  of Bethel, Bobby Shelton and his wife, Nancy Shelton of Bethel, Kris Shelton of Maggie Valley and Larry Shelton and his wife, Cyndi Shelton of Canton;  21 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren;  a sister, Valerie Eavenson Holloway of Waynesville and many dear friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 22, 2017 in the chapel of Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Pastor Roy Kilby and Pastor Davis Plemmons will be officiating.  Burial with military honors will be in Bethel Community Cemetery.  The family will be receiving friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. Serving as pallbearers will be Jason Callahan, Jacob Shelton, Blake Jones, Brandon Shelton, Andrew Shelton, Colby Shelton and Lavoy Shelton.

Memorials may be to Bethel Baptist Church, Building Fund, 5868 Pigeon Road, Canton, NC 28716.
