Canton - Lawrence Edward Parris, age 92, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away Friday, May 25, 2018.

Mr. Parris was born October 19, 1925 in Haywood County to the late William Ellis Parris and the late Annie Lee Massey Parris. He was a United States Army Veteran having honorably served his country during World War II in  Okinawa and Korea and received the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, Good Conduct Medal, and World War II Victory Medal.  Following his military service, he had resided in Davenport, Iowa before returning to Canton where he has made his home for the past 38 years. Mr. Parris had been employed in the maintenance department of the Davenport Public School System,  where he retired with 30 years of dedicated service.  He was a man of many talents, a builder, an electrician, a plumber and he was always involved in many remodeling projects. Lawrence was a CB radio enthusiast and he also enjoyed spending time in his garden. He and his beloved wife, Reva have been blessed with 73 years of marriage and together they have been a true example of love, strength and true devotion for each of us to follow throughout our lives. Lawrence loved his family deeply and his memory shall live on forever in each of them. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Dave Parris and Roy Parris; a sister, Kathleen Welch and his brothers, Glen, Clyde, Jack, J.D. and Bill Parris.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Reva Shipman Parris of Canton; his children, Anna Wilson of Canton and James Parris and Marjorie of Canton; grandchildren, John Parris and Joann of Canton; Dianne Smith and Brad of Bettendorf, IA, Chris Parris and Shannon of Bismarck, ND, Tim Parris and Dawn of DeWitt, IA and Sue Ann Parris of Canton; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; a brother, James Parris and Ruby of Atkins, IA and a daughter-in-law, Darlene Parris of Bettendorf, IA.

The funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, June 2, 2018 in the chapel of Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service. The Reverend Terry Green will be officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral service.  Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery with military honors.
