Clyde – Lucy Jenkins Putnam, age 86, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, November 2, 2018.

Mrs. Putnam was born in Waynesville, March 22, 1932, in the home of her parents, the late Harley Jenkins and the late Cora Reeves Jenkins.

As a child, Mrs. Putnam attended Rock Hill School, and later worked for many years at Lake Junaluska Assembly and for Lambuth Inn. She was an elegant and beautiful lady who took great pride in her appearance, the way she kept up her home, and in how she raised her children. Lucy loved her husband, Mont, beyond all measure. The two of them could often be found spending time together outdoors, while Lucy was caring for her immaculate yard, Mont would be tending their garden. Mrs. Putnam was always appreciative and thankful for the many blessings in her life. In their later years, she and Mont attended Clyde Freewill Baptist Church and worked hard to help build the fellowship hall. She loved her church and caring for the people in her community by taking meals to people so no one would go hungry. Mrs. Putnam was never one to shy away from hard work, a quality of work ethic that she instilled into her children. Above all else, she loved her Lord and was proud to have raised her family as Christians.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Mont Putnam; a brother; five sisters; and a granddaughter, Shay Starnes.

Surviving are her children, Don Putnam (Michelle) of Waynesville, Gary Putnam (Geneva) of Waynesville, Brenda Barnes (Hoyt) of Waynesville, and Rita King (Roger) of Canton; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a sister, Sarah Cunningham of Waynesville; a special niece, Peggy Ledbetter, and numerous other nieces and nephews; and two special caregivers, Ricki “Sue” and Margie “Betty”.

The family will receive friends Monday, November 5th from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Crawford / Ray Funeral Home in Canton. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 6th at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Crawford / Ray Funeral Home. Mark King will be officiating.

Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service is honored to be caring for the Putnam family.
