Waynesville- Mitzi Jane Swanger Rogers, age 70, was carried home by the angels and into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 24, 2019.

Mitzi was born February 17, 1949 to the late John Swanger and the late Edith Robinson Swanger. She had made her home in Haywood County all of her life and was a devoted homemaker. Mitzi always welcomed everyone to the Rogers home with open arms and she delighted in family gatherings and holidays that always brought her loved ones together to make special memories that each will cherish forever . The blessed Christmas season held a special place in Mitzi’s heart and she so enjoyed sharing delicious meals, special sweets and desserts and celebrating this special time of the year.  Mitzi’s strong faith was an important part of life and she was a dedicated member of Maple Grove Baptist Church where her church family surrounded her with love and prayers.  Her kind and caring heart was truly evident as she served as a caregiver to those who needed someone to touch their lives with love and concern and bring a ray of sunshine into their day.  Mitzi loved beautiful flowers and that so represents her life- a life full of beauty and joy, and a life that brought many smiles to everyone around her. At this special Thanksgiving season, we give thanks for the life of Mitzi Swanger Rogers, a precious daughter, a loving wife and a wonderful mother and grandmother.  We rejoice that she celebrates in Heaven on this day.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Joe Bob Swanger.

Surviving are her loving husband of 52 years, Allen Rogers of Waynesville; her daughter,  Amy Jones –Cochran and her husband, Coal  and grandchildren, Morgan B. Jones and Mason G. Jones and step-grandchildren , Glenn Cochran, Helina Cochran and Chloe Cochran; her son, Aaron Rogers and his wife, Misty and grandchildren, Ellie Rogers and Shane Rogers; a sister, Patti Swanger Green and her husband, James “Bud” Green ; a brother, Gary Swanger and his wife, Betty Swanger;  her sister -in-law and brother-in-law, Norma and Don Fisher; nieces and nephews, Jill Ward and Tink, Jon Hardin, Mark Swanger and Stephanie, Gene Swanger, Derek Fisher and Robin, John Fisher and Jana and Jennifer Fisher Staton  and Darius; also many dear friends.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at Maple Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Tommy Carlisle officiating.  The family will be receiving friends at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be in Piney Grove Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Derek and John Fisher, James Brabson, Tommy Walters, Jeff Henderson, Andrew Cowan and Jason Hardin.

Memorials may be made to Maple Grove Baptist Church Mission Fund, 2501 Stamey Cove Road,  Waynesville, NC 28786 or John F. Keever Solace Center, 21 Belvedere Road, Asheville NC 28803.
