Norma "Nanny" Hightower
Waynesville – Norma “ Nanny “Jean Shirley Hightower, age 70, a beloved mother and a wonderful grandmother and great-grandmother entered into the arms of the angels on Wednesday, January 31, 2018.
Mrs. Hightower was born April 8, 1947 in Rabun County, Georgia to the late Fred Shirley and the late Ola Dills Shirley. She had resided in Georgia before making her home in Haywood County for the past 25 years. Mrs. Hightower was a dedicated homemaker, loved to camp and fish and she also had great patience to search for “ lucky four leaf clovers”. Nanny was deeply loved by her family and the special time that she shared with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were held close to her heart. We give thanks for the life of Norma “Nanny” Hightower and will carry her precious memory in our hearts forever.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Hightower who passed away in 2010; a son, William Hightower, one brother and four sisters.
Surviving are her daughter, Betty Arrowood and her husband, Johnny Arrowood of Waynesville; her sons, James Land of Waynesville and David Hightower and his wife, Anita Hightower of Waynesville; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Albert Shirley and his wife, JoAnn Shirley of Clarksville, GA; sisters, Frances Lovell of Clarksville, Georgia and Brenda Ivester and her husband, O’Neil Ivester of Clarksville, GA and also her special loving chihuahua dogs,“ Toejo” and “Tobby”.
Private services for Mrs. Hightower will be held at a later date.
