 Highlands - During the quiet peaceful evening hours of Sunday, September 2, 2018, Mary Pauline “Polly” Grant Dean entered into her heavenly home.

She was born January 19, 1926 in Fulton County, Georgia to the late Thomas Henry Grant and the late Willie May Bridwell Grant.  Polly made her home in Atlanta during her early years and continued her education at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Music.  She later resided in St. Petersburg, Florida during most of her adult life and in 1990 she and her husband permanently made their home in Highlands, NC.  Mrs. Dean was a faithful member of Highlands United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Altar Guild, the Hand Bell Choir and was also involved in many other church activities. She kindly gave many volunteer hours to the Highlands- Cashiers Hospital and was also a member of PEO.  Mrs. Dean was a devoted homemaker, an active member of her community, always enjoyed being on the go and held a special place in her heart for all animals. She deeply loved her husband and children and she truly played an important role in the lives of her beloved grandchildren.  Mrs. Dean was blessed with 92 years of a wonderful and full life and she shall be deeply missed by her family and many friends.  

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William Jesse Dean; a son, David William Dean and also a sister.

Surviving are her daughter, Julie Dean Hunter and her husband, Gerald Hunter of Jasper, Georgia; a son, Bryson Thomas Dean and his wife, Kathy Dean of Newark, Delaware; her grandchildren, Keri Kaplan, Mandy Byers, Kelly Sacchetti, Jeff Dean and Jesse Dean and 11 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Highlands United Methodist Church with Reverend Randy Lucas officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the church one hour prior to the celebration of life service. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation,
