Asheville – Ray Junior Woody, age 76, entered into the arms of his Saviour on Monday, January 29, 2018.

Mr. Woody was born February 15, 1941 in Greenville, SC to the late Reverend Isaac Ray Woody and the late Dora Jane Clark. He had resided most of his life in Buncombe County and retired from Republic Services as a dedicated truck driver.  Junior placed his faithful love for the Lord first and foremost in his life and he attended Pinnacle View Baptist Church in Leicester.  He loved farming his land and also going camping and fishing.  Junior was a man whose faith was indeed an important part of his life and his love for his family was witnessed by all who knew him. His grandchildren brought great joy and happiness into his life everyday and they were indeed his pride and joy. Ray Junior Woody was a loving husband, father and grandfather and most importantly a man dedicated to serving his Lord.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Alma Christine Woody; a son, Randy Woody and an infant brother.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 53 years, Sharon Penley Woody of Asheville; a daughter, Annette Woody Owens and her husband, Rodney Owens, Sr. of Asheville; sons, Darrell Woody and his wife, Misty Woody of Asheville and Darren Woody of Asheville; grandchildren, Steven Swaney and fiancée, Monica Heatherly, Kayla Woody, Faith Woody, Isaac Woody, R. J. Owens, Joshua Woody, Nathaniel Owens and Alex Woody; sisters, Tella Maynard and her husband, Maurice Maynard of Stanley, NC and Thelma Carroll of Old Fort; a brother, David Woody and his wife, Judy Woody of Hot Springs; and a nephew, Anthony Woody, who was just like a son.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Jones Valley Baptist Church in Leicester.  Pastor Darrell Woody, Pastor Bryan Rhodarmer and Pastor Marc Penley will be officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  The family will be welcoming and receiving friends at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.  Serving as pallbearers will be Steven Swaney, Isaac Woody, R. J. Owens, Josh Woody, Anthony Woody, Pete Ramsey and Cliff Mills.
