Canton-On Tuesday, September 26, 2017, Roger Boyd, age 70, known to many as “Shade” went to his heavenly home after fighting years of declining health. He has won the Battle.
Roger was born March 30, 1947 in Haywood County and was the son of the late Bill Boyd and the late Margaret Whitted Boyd. He had honorably served his country as a United States Army Veteran. Roger loved God, his family and friends with his whole heart. He had a unique talent of restoring and fixing old cars and teaching this trade to many.
During his high school years and even later, he was one of the best drag racers on the dragway or streets wherever he could find someone to race - even law enforcement, who were also Roger’s friends. We give thanks for the life of Roger Boyd.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 45 years, Brenda Smathers Boyd; sisters, Gail Boyd Cannon, Billie Boyd Conard (Jeff); nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, a great-great-nephew and many friends.
The family would like to say thank you to all the staff at Silver Bluff Rehabilitation for the excellent care and thoughtfulness during Roger’s stay there. They are a remarkable group.
His earthly body has been donated to Wake Forest School of Medicine with the hope of finding answers or a cure for Parkinson’s disease.
A memorial service to celebrate Roger’s life will be held at 7:00 p.m., Monday, October 2, 2017 at Rocky Face Baptist Church. Reverend Donnie Henson will be officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service is honored to be caring for the Boyd family and words of comfort may be shared at www.crawfordray.com.
