Canton- During the quiet peaceful evening hours of Sunday, April 7, 2019, a beloved lady that shall never be forgotten, Shirley Ann Bennett Pressley, age 81, was carried home by the angels.

Mrs. Pressley was born September 13, 1937 in Jackson County, to the late Rev. Lloyd Bennett and the late Hurble Holland Bennett. Shirley was blessed to grow up in a Christian and loving home and the wonderful memories that she shared growing up with her with brothers and sisters are treasured moments that they each hold close to their hearts. She had resided in South Carolina during her younger years and had later made her home in Haywood County most of her adult life. Everyone that had the opportunity of knowing Mrs. Pressley loved her dearly. Her heart was filled with immeasurable pride and joy for all of her children and grandchildren and it always seemed that Shirley looked to find the best in everyone. She was a devoted homemaker and she enjoyed spending time working in her lawn, often mowing her grass, gardening and tending to her beautiful flowers. Her untiring work ethic was indeed an example to everyone. Shirley Bennett Pressley, was a lady full of grace, a lady who loved her Lord and Saviour and a lady that touched all of us with her kindness, her caring spirit, and her beautiful smile.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Billy Pressley who passed away in 2011 and an infant sister, Darcie May Bennett.

Surviving are her children, Kathy Pressley (Stan) of Canton, Betty Moore (Johnny) of Lexington, SC ; Phyllis Burchfield (Steve) of Canton and Billy Ray Pressley (Lisa) of Canton; grandchildren, Amber Reece-Young (Chris), Matthew Moore ( Kim), Molly Reece , Zach Moore (Jeannie), Stephanie Webb (Dustin), Holly Kinsland (Luke) and Emily Pressley; nine great-grandchildren ; sisters, Brenda Lanning (Ronnie) and Diana Bennett; brothers, Kenneth Bennett (Jean), Winfred Bennett (Carolyn), Winston “H.A.” Bennett (Barbara), Ronnie  Bennett (Shirley) and Ross Bennett (Johnnie) and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service to honor Mrs. Pressley will be held at 3:00 pm Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Rev. Dr. Roy Kilby and Rev. Winfred Bennett will be officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 1:00 until 3:00 pm prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in Center Pigeon Cemetery. I pray that God will be with everyone as you move ahead in the days to come . Shirley was an absolute amazing, loving, caring and most gentle lady that I have ever know , I feel blessed to just have known her , never have I ever seen her that there was not a smile on her face, a caring word from her mouth or a heart that was full of love for everyone. May she rest easy now that her work here is done , We all love you Shirley, and will see you again , May God bless you Kathy , Phyllis, Betty , Billy Ray and all the family , and thank you for sharing her with all of us .

Dear Kathy, Betty, Phyllis and Billy Ray, There just aren’t enough words to convey just how sorry we were to hear of your Mother’s passing. She was a blessing to everyone she met. I have so many fond memories of going to Nanny & Papaw’s; out the back door and straight to your house. Your Mom was always there to welcome me. She always had a smile on her face. I'm so sorry for your loss......As stated, Shirley Pressley was truly a kind and gentle soul. She always had a smile on her face, a sparkle in her eyes. No matter the circumstances, she always had a kind word to say and she always made a person feel welcome in her home at all times. When she gave you a hug or words of encouragement you knew it truly came from her heart. Shirley has always had a special place in my heart and will be greatly missed by all.
