Loving Mother and Grandmother

On Saturday, February 24, 2019, a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Vera Catherine Heath, age 88, passed away.

Our Mom was born June 2, 1933 in Haywood County. She was the daughter of the late Emanuel Lafayette “EL” Smith and the late Laura Sarah Noland Smith.

Mom loved her family unfailingly. If we ever needed her, she was there. Her warm embrace and soft voice always provided comfort. Her wit and playfulness as we were growing up memorable. (I never really believed she could talk to the UFO’s, but I pretended to believe just to make her think I thought she could). Whenever she was with her grandchildren or great-grandchildren she was at her happiest. When her father passed, she left her home and family in Texas to be supportive of her mom. Upon returning to Canton, she was employed at Silver Bluff Village until her illness forced her to retire. She will be forever missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Smitty Smith, and Howard Smith; and her sisters, Maxine Rogers, and Ann Gibson.

Surviving her are her sons, Daniel Heath and his wife Claudia of Winnsboro, South Carolina, Randy Heath and his wife Sandy of Dayton, Texas, and Roger Heath of Canton, North Carolina, who lovingly cared for our mother daily from the onset of her illness until her passing. She is also survived by her grandchildren, James Heath and wife Janet, Patrick Heath and his wife Leeann, Melanie Holifield and her husband Kevin, Amanda Lightfoot and her husband Brian, Christopher Heath and his wife Cortney; great-grandchildren, Justin, Jordan, Kade, Alexa, Ryder, Gabby, Logan, Andrew, Daniel, and Hannah.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2019 in the chapel of Crawford / Ray Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Canton. Serving as pallbearers will be Gerald Rogers, Mark Rogers, Jason Gillespie, Bruce Gillespie James Heath, and Danny Heath. The family will be receiving friends from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at the funeral home prior to the service.

Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service is honored to be caring for the Heath family.

Condolences from family and friends
