Virgie Carver Green, 95, passed from this earthly home to her eternal home in Heaven, on Friday, February 1, 2019, at Maggie Valley Nursing Home, following a period of declining health.

Mrs. Green was the widow of William A. Green, who passed away in 2005.  She was predeceased by her parents, Otis and Neppie Vance Carver, and a sister, Janice O’Neal Mooney.  She is survived by one daughter, Gail Swanger Lovingood and husband, Troy, of Landrum, SC, and two sons, Ron M. Green and wife, Carolyn, and Larry Keith Swanger and wife, Barbara, both of Greeneville, TN.  She is also survived by ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Green was a native of Swain County but lived most of her life in Haywood County.  She was born in Smokemont, NC, which was a small settlement in the Great Smoky Mountains which later became part of the National Park Service. Her family was among the first settlers in that mountain community and they were instrumental in the growth of that thriving community until the National Park Service took over at which time her family relocated to Canton.

Mrs. Green was a Christian lady who lived her Christian witness through singing, directing choir and teaching Sunday School. She was a member of Sunny Point Baptist Church.  She was well known for her hospitality and no one left her house without being treated to a dessert of one of her delicious homemade cakes or pies.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, February 4, 2019 in the chapel of Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral service. A private interment service will be held at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mrs. Green's memory to a charity of one's choice.

Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service is honored to be caring for the Green family.

To the Family, I'm sorry for your loss and will be praying for you all during this hard time. When I think of Virgie the first thing that comes to mind is how she shared the love of Jesus. My fondest memory was the bunny cake she made for me at Easter, it was the best cake ever! She was always so kind and loving to me. Praying for you all!

Dearest Gail and Family, we were so sorry to hear of your mother’s passing. It is in times like these that we will rediscover that God’s marvelous grace is more than sufficient to heal our hearts and that His love is never ending. Our prayers are with you for continuing peace, mercy, healing and abundant rest. We also rejoice in her going home, knowing she now abides in the presence of our Lord. May God bless and keep you always.
