Canton- Wilda Kate Brown Loomis, age 89, passed away Monday, August 12, 2019 in the comfort of her home.

Mrs. Loomis was born October 8, 1929 in Haywood County to the late Walker Brown and the late Eulalia McCracken Brown. Wilda was Graduate of Furman University in South Carolina, and later earned her Master’s Degree from Western Carolina University. Wilda had resided in Florida until remaking her home in Haywood County for the last 42 years. Mrs. Loomis had been employed as a speech pathologist, helping many children with speech difficulties for Madison County School Systems until her retirement. Wilda had deeply concerned herself about ecology and the natural world, with which she held a great passion. Her kindness and caring nature will be deeply missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her three sisters, Janette Henson, Lois Long, and Ruth Welch.

Surviving are her two sons, Michael Loomis of Canton, and John Loomis of Portland, OR; and a granddaughter of her own name, Wilda Kate Loomis.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at Woodland Baptist Church. A reception will follow at the church.
