Canton- William “Bill” R. Brown, Jr, age 73, a man who had dedicated his life to helping others, passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2018.

Mr. Brown was a lifelong resident of Haywood County and was the son of the late William Roy Brown, Sr. and the late Leota McLean Brown.  He received his Master's Degree in Education from Western Carolina University and was employed with the Haywood County School System, where he served as a guidance counselor for 30  years before his retirement.  As a Certified Medical Technician Bill was actively involved with the Haywood County Rescue Squad for many years and he had also served as an administrative board member. A dedicated volunteer with the Community Kitchen, he had recently served as co-director for this meaningful outreach program. He was a member of Canton First United Methodist Church where he had held the office of church secretary and also several other positions within the church.  William “Bill” Brown, Jr. was a man who had devoted his entire life to giving, helping and serving others. His many years of lending support and guidance to the children that needed his advice and wisdom throughout their formative years will never be forgotten. His compassion for people by giving his time to attend emergency medical calls whenever he was needed showed his concern for the community. Bill's heart was filled with kindness for those who might need a helping hand and his faithfulness to reach out to others was a blessing. His life was a testimony to always helping and serving others and as we remember him on this day, reach out to someone and make their a day a little brighter.  Bill would be pleased.

He is survived by his sister, Nancy Freeman and her husband, Joe Freeman of Canton; his niece of whom Bill was so proud, Karen Bowman and her husband, Pat Bowman of Canton; a nephew, Michael Freeman of California and a great-nephew, Hunter  Bowman of Canton.
