Addie M. Cogburn
A Loving Wife, Mother, and Granny
Canton- Addie M. Vanderslice Cogburn, age, 76, a kind and caring lady that was lovingly known as “Granny” to all who knew her, passed away Monday, February 24, 2020.
Addie was born December 4, 1943 in Shelby County, Alabama to the late Tommie Vanderslice and the late Janie Edwards Vanderslice. She had resided in Bessemer City, AL before making her home in Canton for the past 52 years. She had been employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant at several local health care centers and Addie had also worked as a cook at the Thickety Quick Shop where everyone enjoyed her delicious biscuits and gravy, and when the loyal lunch customers arrived, the demand for her amazing hot dogs was endless! Following her retirement, she devoted her time and immeasurable love to her grandchildren and each of them cherish the time that they shared with their Granny. Addie was a talented quilter and her embroidery pieces were admired by everyone and in fact, she received several awards at the Haywood County Fair for her fine craftsmanship. Everyone who knew Addie loved her and she was blessed with a multitude of friendships throughout her lifetime. Mrs. Cogburn was of the Baptist faith. Granny will be deeply missed by her family and friends but her memory will live on forever in each of their hearts.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Cogburn who passed away in 2002; a grandson, Daniel Raines; two sisters, and a brother.
Surviving are her daughters, Judy Cogburn of Waynesville, Annette Sizemore and Gerald Sizemore of Canton, and Janette Cogburn and Jason Gibson of Waynesville; grandchildren, Staci, Tabatha, Cody, Mitchell, Adam, April, Jacob, Matthew, Savannah, Gary, Janie, Michael, and Colton; twenty-four great-grandchildren, and many friends.
The Cogburn family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Autumn Care and also the Haywood County Rescue Squad and the Haywood County EMS for the special love care and concern shown to our beloved “Granny”.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, February 26, 2020 in the chapel of Crawford / Ray Funeral Home with the Reverend Donnie Bryson and Reverend Scotty Rollins officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral service. At other times, the family will be at the home of Janette Cogburn at 6 Alma Dr., Waynesville, NC 28785. The Haywood County Rescue Squad and EMS will be escorting Mrs. Cogburn for burial at Crawford / Ray Memorial Gardens.
