Asheville- Anthony James Surrett, age 41, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2021.

Anthony was born February 1, 1980 in Buncombe County where he has resided all of his life. He loved the mountains where he was born and raised and enjoyed spending time outdoors. Anthony worked as a self-employed tree trimmer in the timber industry. He loved his family and, in their words, “Anthony was a kind and tender-hearted man.” He will be missed deeply forever.

He was preceded in death by his father, Reeves Surrett who passed away December 9, 2020.

Surviving are his mother, Linda Elkins Surrett of Marshall; a son Mason Jess Surrett of Greenville, TN; his brothers and sisters, Reeves Junior Surrett and Jennifer of Marshall, Debbie Surrett of Marshall, Mike Surrett and Judy of Newport, TN, and Vanessa Surrett of Marshall; nieces and nephews, Savannah, Dakota, Haylee, Dawson, Danielle, Megan and Madilyn.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, March 11, 2021 at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Leicester. Pastor Charles English and Pastor Wade Rice will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the Surrett family kindly ask that memorials be made to Crawford / Ray Funeral Home, 1 North Main Street, Canton, NC 28716 to assist the family with funeral expenses. This kindness would be greatly appreciated by the family.

I can remember meeting Anthony many years ago with him and his son Mason he was always smiling and kind even after all these years he still great me with a hug .I have shared so many memories with him through the years .when him his dad and Mike fishing he caught so many fish was ended up using one pole and Mike ask how are you unhooking the crappy so easy .He said just run fiher down the hook pull it out needles say We All laughed ..Anthony you will be missed but Never forgotten ..I love you Go rest high on that mountain say Hello Aaron and Reeves for me .
