Arnold Devoid Arrowood
A Well-Respected Gentleman

Canton – Arnold Devoid Arrowood, age 84, passed away Monday, January 16, 2023.
A native of Travelers Rest, South Carolina, Arnold was born December 17, 1938 to the late Tommie D. Arrowood and the late Juanita Hill Arrowood.
Arnold graduated from Travelers Rest High School and earned his Bachelor’s degree from Furman University, later earning his Master’s degree. He had been employed at New York Life Insurance Company, before finding his true calling in helping the communities where he lived. As a young man, Arnold started the first Balloon Festival in Burlington and his love for his community continued throughout his career. Mr. Arrowood was employed as an economic developer for Chambers of Commerce in a number of communities and states, the last of which was Waynesville, where he had also served as President. He was deeply committed to his work and was passionate about helping communities grow and prosper. Arnold had a profound intellect and understanding of many subjects and was generous in working with others to help them thrive in their own endeavors. His faith was an important part of his life, and he was an avid reader and lifelong learner of Christian theology. Mr. Arrowood was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Rotary Club where he also contributed to benefit the lives of others around him. As we remember Arnold Arrowood, let us also make efforts in our own lives to continue to strengthen the lives and communities around us.
Surviving are his daughters, Tina Arrowood of Burlington, and Kendis Helms (Michael) of Davidson; grandchildren, Tyler Long (Mittie) of Spartanburg, SC, and Sydney Helms of Davidson; sister, Brenda Dobbins of Travelers Rest, SC; niece, Natalie Dobbins Belt of Travelers Rest, SC; dear friends, Andy and Crystal and their children, Emily and Thomas; and his beloved Westie, Casper.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Jimmy Dobbins.
A graveside memorial service to honor and remember the life of Mr. Arrowood will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Mountain View Memorial Park, 7 Duncan Road, Travelers Rest, SC 29690. Associate Pastor Eric Anderson of Clearview Baptist Church will be officiating. The family will receive friends at the graveside following the service.
