A Special Lady

Betty Jean Rhinehart Henson, age 90, a beloved and precious lady, was welcomed into the gates of heaven by a host of glorious angels on Monday, March 9, 2020.

Betty was born July 10, 1929 in Haywood County to the late Dewey Rhinehart and the late Elizabeth McDonald Rhinehart. She had made her home in the Cruso Community where she was known and loved by everyone. Mrs. Henson had been employed with Champion International in Canton. Betty’s faith was an important part of her life. She was a lifelong member of Cruso United Methodist Church and an active member of the United Methodist Women. The Cruso Community will greatly miss Betty and will forever remember her presence in so many wonderful clubs and organizations throughout Cruso. She was a member of the Cruso Friendship Club, Cruso Homemakers, and also a dedicated volunteer for the Cruso Community Center. As a member of the Red Hatters Club, she made many happy and fun memories that will never be forgotten by all of her Red Hatter friends. She was active in the Cruso Garden Club that worked tirelessly to keep the community blooming and beautiful.  Betty always took pride in being involved during public elections by serving as a member of the Cruso Precinct Election Board for several years. Her kind heart and her thoughtfulness of others led her to give of her time as a volunteer at Silver Bluff Village. She always delighted the residents by running bingo games and bringing a ray of sunshine into their day. She loved her family deeply and Betty always made sure to give special love and attention to the babies in the family. The holidays were always a special time at the Henson home and Betty spent hours preparing and cooking her delicious homemade dishes for family and friends. These memories will never be forgotten. As we remember Betty we remember her loving mother’s heart, her mother’s strong faith and her mother’s steadfast love that were fashioned by the angels and sent from God above.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Randall Henson; brother, Melvin Rhinehart; and sisters, Violet Cole and Barbara Mehaffey.

Surviving are her former husband and father of her children, Charles Robert Henson; children, Charles Daniel Henson and wife Gail of Canton, Mona Lisa Henson of Cruso, and Thomas Henson of Fletcher; grandchildren, Josh Henson and wife Torrie, Jonathan Henson and wife Nishelle, Benjamin Henson and wife Kate, Kristen Rhinehart and husband Nathan, and Luke Arnette and wife Haley; great-grandchildren, Dawson, Sylus, Noah, Reece, Georgia, Luke, Jr.; and sister, Mirth Henson of Canton.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, March 13, 2020 at Cruso United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Betty’s grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Burial will be in the New Cruso Cemetery. Pastor Peter Constantian and Pastor Aryn Williams-Ruebel will be officiating.

Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service is honored to be caring for the family of Betty Henson.

I remember your mother always out working in her yard, flowers, or garden. She always wore that beautiful smile, and any time you saw her she had such a friendly and positive disposition. I am sorry for your loss, but I know you feel privileged to have had her for 90 years, and much of those as your mother. May you find peace with knowing she's in Heaven and every so happy. Respectfully, Connie Chambers Allen
