In Loving Memory

Photo of Bonnie Kay Beard - 1951-2023

Bonnie Kay Beard, age 71, passed away Monday, March 20, 2023.
Bonnie was born October 10, 1951 to Gordon Leroy Smith and Sadie Marie Smith at Fort Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina. After her father left the Army, he moved his family back to his hometown of Atlantic Beach, North Carolina. Bonnie spent the majority of her life on the coast and loved the water. It's been said that she could out-fish anyone and would rather fish than eat.

Bonnie was a kind loving soul that never met a stranger. She was never seen without a smile, loved a good joke, and was known for pulling pranks. She was a talented artist who could draw or paint just about anything, enjoyed ceramics, and was a skilled seamstress. Her eye for art was useful in her career as she worked as a nail technician for many years. Bonnie was devoted to her family and relocated to Canton in 2014 to be closer to her kids and grandkids.

Bonnie is preceded in death by her parents; 1 brother, Edward Smith; and 3 sisters, Connie Easter, Diane Smith, and Linda Outlaw.

She is survived by her partner and best friend of 21 years, Carroll Arthur; 2 sisters Dottie Price and Janet Bridges of Morehead City; 3 children, Stefanie Beard of Canton, NC, Michael Beard of Bolivia, NC, and Jeremy Beard Sr. of Monterey, TN; daughter in law, Natasha Beard of Monterey, TN; 4 grandchildren, Jessica Allen, Brandon (Darlene) Allen, Jeremy (Makenzie) Beard Jr., and Sadie (Dylan Whaley) Beard; and 4 great-grandchildren, Yaura Allen, Charlotte Allen, Ellie Whaley, and Colton Beard; and many dear friends.

A graveside service will be held at 11:30 am Friday, March 24, 2023 at Crawford / Ray Memorial Gardens in Clyde.

Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service is honored to be caring for the Beard family.

Miss Bonnie, thank you for being there for a group of teenaged girls with an open house every weekend. Thanks for letting us watch “Beaches” or “Sweet Magnolias” all night and waking us up Saturday morning with the bossanova on your organ! Your were an ear to an awkward teenager and always made sure that we were worth way more than we believed. Rest in peace and May God be with Stefanie, Michael, Jeremy and the rest of the family! ❤️

I was so saddened to hear of my sweet, beloved friends' passing. Bonnie and I became instant friends when we met over 50 years ago. We did lots of things together including pregnancies. Her Stefanie and my Chad were born the same year. Bonnie and I visited each other often when they lived in TN, our kids liked playing together while Bonnie and I talked and laughed for hours. We sure missed them when they moved. Bonnie was like family for so many years, my parents and siblings thought the world of her. She was such a fun, happy lady and made everyone around her happy too. Bonnie was amazing and I loved her dearly. Stefanie, Mike and Todd, your precious Mama loved you more than anything in the world. Carry that love and her positive spirit with you always. You 3 are on my mind and in my prayers. Big loving hugs to you and your families. ❤️
