Canton- Charles “Posse” Luther Reece, a man that was greatly loved and who will be deeply missed, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2022.

Charles was born January 27, 1942 and has been blessed with 80 years of a full and wonderful life. He was the son of the late Ira Luther Reece and the late Katie Arizona Hampton and was proud to have made his home in Haywood County all of his life. Mr. Reece retired from Lea Industry in Waynesville where he was employed with more than 40 years of dedicated service. Posse loved being outdoors, fishing in his favorite mountain streams and hiking across the mountains where he was born and raised.  It seemed as if he always knew just the perfect place to dig ginseng and ramps when the season came around.  Charles also enjoyed visiting the flea markets in our area and searching for a special treasure or bargain.  A wonderful memory that his family will always cherish is picking blueberries together with Posse and the laughter and fun that he brought into each of their lives.  It saddens us to say goodbye but it makes us happy to know that he will always be a part of who we are. His life has been a blessing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six sisters and three brothers.

Surviving are his daughters, Susan Reece of Canton and Kathy Fouts and Randy of Canton; his son, Randy Reece of Canton; grandchildren, Brady Reece –Cruse and Tyler of Spartanburg, SC, Beth Reece and Justin of Maggie Valley, Dustin Reece of Canton, Caleb Fouts and Morgan of Canton, Michaela Gamez and Leo of Forest City, Kyler Fouts of Huntsville, Alabama and Maddi Reece of Canton; great-grandchildren, Dakotah Reece, Easton Reece, Ethan Reece, Mathias Fouts, and Vicente Gamez; also his former wife and the mother of his children, Peggy Pace Reece of Canton.

A gathering of family and friends to honor and celebrate the life of Mr. Reece will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Monday, November 28, 2022 in the chapel of Crawford / Ray Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made in his memory to Alzheimer’s Association of Western North Carolina, 31 College Place, Asheville, NC 28801

Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service is honored to be caring for the Reece family.
