Charles Robert “Bob” Smathers, age 80, passed away at his residence in Waynesville on Saturday, September 11, 2021.

Bob was born September 14, 1940 and was a lifelong resident of Haywood County.  Mr. Smathers was the former co-owner of Smathers Market in Canton and Smathers Food Service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Underwood Smathers and Myrtle Ammons Smathers, as well as his sister, Joyce.

To honor his request, no formal funeral services are planned.

I remember Mr Smathers as a young girl, growing up in Canton. Such a dear man. Praying that God will send his blessings on the Family.

Bobby and me spent 4 years at CHS and remained friends for life . we had many good times together . may god have mercy on him and his family

Worked with Bobby, Joyce, & Allan Clark at Smathers Super market through my high school years. A lot of good memories. May God comfort the family and friends through these trying times.
