Clyde - Clara Jo Boone Ledford of the Stamey Cove Community in Clyde, went home to be with her heavenly Father on Friday, September 2, 2022.

Clara was born May 18, 1932, to the late William Henry Boone and the late Kate Godfrey Boone in Wolf Pen (Waynesville), NC.  She grew up on "Wild Cat Cliffs" (as she referred to it with a smile) where she collected many stories and precious memories while growing up with her two brothers: Bud Boone, and the late Mack Boone. She attended Waynesville Township High.

Clara is survived by her husband of greater than 70 years, James Marvin Ledford.  Though neither of them could recall their wedding date, they proudly referred to each other as "Tweety" and would smile as they would tell the story of how he drove by and saw her and instantly knew she was "the one."

Clara is also survived by a daughter, Kathy Ledford Keener (Carl Keener) of Clyde; a granddaughter, Carlin Keener Smith (Brad Smith) of Canton; and her sister-in-law, Ruth Boone of New Jersey.  She was also preceded in death by her son, Steven Joe Ledford.

Clara worked at Dayco Corporation in Waynesville for 17 years.  She was a member of Louisa Chapel United Methodist Church. She enjoyed a long retirement where she loved to watch "her birds" outside her window, treasure her flowers, fish at Fontana, and sit in "her chair" in the living room sharing stories and memories with her husband and family. She was often seen studying her bible as she had a strong faith in God. When asked what her favorite scriptures were, she would say, "all of them."

Mrs. Ledford lived very selflessly and humbly.  Clara always put others first and was a prayer warrior. She loved, cherished, and was so proud of her family.

Her passing will leave a huge void in the hearts of her family, but they have much comfort knowing that she is in her eternal home, and they will see her again.

A graveside funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Ledford will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, September 9, 2022 at Crawford / Ray Memorial Gardens in Clyde. Reverend Ray Shepard will be officiating.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to Silver Bluff Village. The care and compassion shown to Clara and her family during this time will never be forgotten.  Special thank you to Haywood Rescue Squad, Haywood Regional Medical Center (ED and 5th floor), as well as Haywood Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made by mail to Haywood Rescue Squad P.O. Box 1623 Waynesville, NC 28786 and online at www.haywoodrescue.org/donate/ or to Haywood County Meals on Wheels 157 Paragon Parkway, Suite 300 Clyde, NC 28721.

Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service is honored to be caring for the Ledford family.
