David James Rogers, 74 of Little East Fork, passed away peacefully at his home on October 23, 2023.

David was of Baptist faith. He was a generous man that would help anyone in need. He enjoyed being in the woods hunting, hiking or just exploring with his dog Sally.  He loved sharing his love of nature with grandchildren and anyone interested. David enjoyed joking around, giving people a “hard time.” He loved being with family and friends.

David went home to be with God and join family that has passed before him. He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Clara Rogers, and his baby brother, Edward Rogers.

David is survived by his wife of 49 years, Shirley Rogers, and three children Carolyn, Gail, and Travis. Carolyn and her husband John have three sons, John, Nathaniel (Xena), and Andrew Dudek. Gail and her husband have one daughter Elizabeth Franklin and stepdaughter Megan (Steven) Auer. His siblings include Ronda Owen and Lon Rogers. There are three step-great-grandchildren and lots of nieces and nephews as well.

The family would like to thank those who have given love, support, and care in the last few months. Special thanks to Genesis Care and Advent Health in Clyde for their part in David's fight against cancer.  Special thanks to all who brought food, gave time, and visited David in his time of need.

The funeral service will be held at 3:00PM, Sunday, November 5, 2023, at Burnett Siding Baptist Church of Canton. The family will be receiving friends at the church from 2:00 until 3:00PM prior to the funeral service. David will be laid to rest following the service at Sunburst Cemetery in Canton.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 7 N Main Street, Canton NC to assist with funeral expenses.

Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service is honored to be caring for the Rogers family.

I enjoyed being a friend of David's. When my wife and I moved into a home close to David's home he was the first person to welcome us to the area. He and I spent time together talking about hunting and the mess our country is in now. He made sure we knew he was a Christian. We will miss not having him around.
