Canton - Dennis Clarence Watkins, age 73, entered his heavenly home on January 15, 2021.

He was born in Haywood County on April 3, 1947 to the late Norman Watkins and the late Frances Warren Watkins.

Dennis had honorably served our country in the United States Army from 1967 to 1970. Mr. Watkins retired from Haywood Community College and Haywood County Schools where he enjoyed substitute teaching and driving the school bus. He was an active member of Crestview Baptist Church where he enjoyed visitation outreach and serving his Savior. Dennis loved camping, spending time outdoors with his family and friends. and felt blessed to be a part of Mountain Shadows campground. The happiest times in Dennis' life were those times surrounded by his family and his three grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jeremy Andrew Watkins; and two sisters-in-law, Helen L. Watkins and Georgeanna Watkins.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 50 years, Betty Griffin Watkins; son, Chris Watkins and wife Angie Watkins; daughter-in-law, Jaime Watkins; and three grandchildren, Samantha Watkins and fiancé Joshua Jamison, Caleb Watkins and fiancée Taylor Bradford, and Connor Watkins. He is also survived by two brothers, Mitchell L. Watkins of San Antonio, TX and Douglas H. Watkins of Canton; a sister, Norma Jean Watkins Raines of Canton; along with many special nieces and nephews, and a special brother from another mother, Woody Sanford and wife Darlene Sanford of Canton.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date to be announced.

Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service is honored to be caring for the Watkins family.

Condolences from family and friends

I’m so sorry for your loss. Praying the God of all comfort helps you at this difficult time. (2 Corinthians 1:3,4 & Psalms 83:18). Jesus told us to pray for God’s Kingdom because the Bible promises it will do away with death. (Revelation 21:4,5 & Daniel 2:44).

Dennis was my youngest uncle and although I didn't tell him enough I loved him very much. Dennis and Betty helped me through so many rough patches over the years and the words "Thank You" didn't seem to convey the gratitude for the love and kindness they both showed not only me but everyone that crossed their paths. I've put this off as long as I could because I'm still not over the loss of Dennis' youngest son Jeremy, whom we lost just a little over a year ago. Dennis, you will be missed as the greatest uncle in the world. I prayed for you to have more time with Betty and your family but it was your time. Please give Mamow, Alex, Helen, Georgiana, and Jeremy a hug for me and tell them I miss them all very much. Rest in Peace until we meet again. All my love, Sis (Arlene)
