Canton – Dorothy Rice Roberts, age 86, passed away Sunday, January 15, 2023 at Silver Bluff Village.

A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, Dorothy was born August 20, 1936 to the late Fred H. Rice and the late Beulah Green Rice.

Dorothy was a gifted artist who had an eye for seeing the beauty in all that was around her. Wildflowers and daylilies brought her peace and happiness, and she also loved beautiful unique gem stones and jewelry. Her artistic eye was also evident in her career as an antique dealer, offering her wonderful antiques at local flea market shows.

Ms. Roberts was a local historian who had an abundance of knowledge of the histories around Haywood County and she loved to share this with anyone who was interested in learning more about their town. Dorothy Sue Rice Roberts will be remembered as a lady who was very loving and giving to everyone she met, and her caring spirit will be forever be missed by those who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Roberts, Sr., and her two sisters.

Surviving are her stepchildren, Bobby Roberts, Jr. (Deborah) of Black Mountain, and Theresa Roberts of Hudson, FL; stepdaughter-in-law, Jeannine Roberts of Hudson, FL; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend who was like a sister to her, Slena Cogdill of Canton.

In honoring Dorothy’s wishes, private services will be held at a later date.
